Ageing Eyes

Blepharoplasty surgery can improve the appearance of the eye area

Our face changes as we age and this can often be seen in the eye area. The skin on the eyelid may begin to sag as it loses elasticity, giving your eyes a droopy appearance. For some people, this effect of ageing is simply a cosmetic concern, whereas, for others, it can obstruct vision. Regardless of your reasons for wanting to address the problem, a blepharoplasty can be your solution. This procedure alters the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both.

Eyelid surgery improves the appearance of your eyes

Blepharoplasty is commonly referred to as eyelid surgery or an eyelid lift and involves the surgical removal of excess fat, muscle and tissue on the regions of the upper, lower or both eyelids. There are several concerns that many people experience in the eye area due to ageing. A blepharoplasty can most certainly improve the appearance of your eyes and address the signs of ageing, although there are certain things that this procedure can and cannot do.This kind of procedure can improve the appearance of:
  • Puffiness of upper eyelids due to fatty deposits
  • Loose upper eyelid skin that appears to be sagging
  • An excessive amount of fatty deposits in the lower eyelids that resemble a bag or more commonly known as “eye bags”
  • Drooping lower eyelids
Though the anti-ageing benefits of blepharoplasties are most definitely evident, it does not solve all concerns. It can indeed improve the appearance of fine lines, also this is not the purpose of this kind of procedure. It is important to remember that this type of surgery is not suitable to address crows’ feet around the eyes and anti-wrinkle injections are the best option for this type of situation. If you would like a total eye rejuvenation, we recommend considering anti-wrinkle injections after your blepharoplasty. However, this procedure can be a major step in giving your eyes a more youthful appearance.
